Saturday mornings are always a surprise. The boys wake up with a blank slate in front of them, and they usually fill it with adventures around the house in the comfort of their pajamas.
A few weeks back they started creating scenes from Bible stories with Duplos. Micah (8) was the director of operations, but Asher knew some of the stories too and certainly was an eager laborer.
I was reading a book on the couch while this went on, only partially paying attention to the details of their activity. I heard something about Jesus on the cross. I continued reading.
A few minutes later, I hear, "Dad, where's the tape?" I wasn't sure how "tape" was fitting into Duplo building, but I told Micah where to look. And the building continued.
Ten minutes later, the boys were ready for the unveiling. They had created a remarkable depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus with Duplos and Little People.
I was simultaneously stirred and creeped out. I was inspired by my children using their free morning to focus on the Lord's loving sacrifice for us. I was spooked at the sight of Eddie (the blond-haired, black-eyed "Little People" boy) smiling down at the mob from the cross. The Duplo tomb even was large enough to hold a lifeless Eddie inside, although the incorrectly-shaped square rock in front of the tomb did miss the mark.
I'll let you be moved to tear in whatever direction suits you as you marvel on "The Passion of Play."

Done a lot of duplo and lego but I don't recall a crucifixion scene. Impressive.
It's something else. I'm not sure what. But it's something else.
